Former Football Standout Scott Set to Play in UFL Championship with DC Defenders
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Former Frostburg State Football star Niles Scott is set to play in the 2025 United Football League Championship on Saturday as a part of the XFL Conference Champions the DC Defenders.
Scott, a popular name around Frostburg, was drafted to the DC Defenders in 2022 and has played the last two seasons with the team. The Defenders went 6-4 in the 2025 regular season before defeating the St. Louis Battlehawks 36-18 this past Sunday to make their first-ever UFL Championship game. The nose tackle has started every game for DC this season, going for 16 total tackles, one TFL, .5 sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery. Scott's first season with the Defenders was in 2024, where he started in seven of 10 games, totaling 28 tackles and nine quarterback hurries.
The Elkton, MD native played for Frostburg from 2014-2017 as a solid key to the Bobcats' defensive line. Scott put up 150 total tackles in his four-year career, showing 43 TFL's (245 yards) and 25.5 sacks (185 yards), both which are top-10 marks in program history. He helped carry FSU to two double-digit win seasons, as the team was named NJAC Champions in 2016 and made the NCAA Tournament in 2017. Scott finished his career as a First Team AP Little All-American and an AFCA and D3Football.com Second Team All-American, while also being a two-time ECAC All-Star.
Before getting drafted by the Defenders, Scott played for several NFL teams from 2018-2022. The San Francisco 49ers signed Scott in 2018 as an undrafted free agent to welcome him into the league. He was then signed by the Cincinnati Bengals midway through the 2018 season, where he played six games and recorded four tackles. Prior to being drafted by the Defenders, Scott was picked up by the Miami Dolphins in 2022.
The 2025 United Football League Championship Game is presented by Underdog and is set for Saturday, June 14 at 8 PM ET. The game will be played at The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis and will be televised on ABC and streamed on the ESPN APP.
