Women's Swimming Takes Third Overall at Wooster Invite
WOOSTER, Ohio – The Frostburg State women's swimming team took third place at the Wooster Invite from Thursday through Saturday, taking first place in six events over the three-day event.
FSU started strong with a one-two finish in the 500-yard free, with sophomore Genna Rippeon(5:04.28) and freshman Jenna Handwerger (5:13.28) taking the top two spots. The Bobcats had another top-two finish in the 400 IM with Rippeon (4:33.61) and sophomore Taylor Emrich (4:48.19). In the 100 back, senior Gabriela Betancourt won with a 59.56 and junior Jayme Meadows was fifth at 1:01.75. Handwerger took second in the 200 free at 1:55.95, as Rippeon also dominated the 1650 free with the top time of 17:35.47.
The Bobcats used multiple top finishes to strengthen team scores in both the 200 back and fly, as in the former event FSU went 3,4,5 with Emrich, Betancourt and Meadows, respectively, while in the latter, Handwerger and juniors Alexis Ramsey and Morgan Greenlee finished 2, 4, and 5, respectively.
FSU also had a strong showing in the relays, winning both the 400 and 800 free relays. The 400 team was made up of Meadows, Handwerger, Rippeon, and junior Reagan Chase, while the 800 featured Emrich, Handwerger, Rippeon, and sophomore Ashley Ellsworth. Betancourt, Handwerger, Ramsey and Rippeon also took second in the 200-yard medley relay.
Overall the Bobcats earned 1307 team points to finish third, including 13 top-three finishes. Rippeon was FSU's top performer of the invite with four first-place finishes and six overall in the top three.
